   because the celebration is too soon

Will my romanticized remembrance of you

  make it all real

Will my altar make up for the days or years
   during which I never called
   never sent a letter to ask how you are
Will it matter to you that I spent more time constructing a memory
   than an actual relationship
Or, are you willing for the sake of a good party and old times
   to pretend with me
   that I was attentive in life
   and that I deserve this visit
